The CalOptima Board of Directors approved a staff recommendation this month to review and modify payments to hospitals to bring them more in line with Medi-Cal APR-DRG payments, which are acuity-based and closer to the actual cost of providing care.

Hospitals whose payments are significantly below the new state Medi-Cal standard will have the opportunity to negotiate for adjustments to bring payments closer to the current state APR-DRG standard. CalOptima has not adjusted fee-for-service payments to hospitals since 2007.
