HASC and Flex Ed Present Culture of Safety Educational Program on May 18
HASC and Flex Ed present Charge Nursing: Creating a Culture of Safety, an advanced class for charge nurses that will focus on the role of the nurse leader in creating and developing an atmosphere in which all staff feel safe bringing concerns and ideas to improve care. The program will take place May 18 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center; register now.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the relationship of the charge nurse to all team members, including physicians, hospital leadership team members and staff from other areas in the hospital.
- Discuss the role of the charge nurse regarding patient satisfaction.
- Evaluate unit readiness for any type of survey (ie, Joint Commission).
- Discuss measures that would improve a unit’s safety culture.
- Respond to critical events in the unit, and follow up with appropriate actions after the event.
The course also will discuss the key roles of the charge nurse in development of a “Just Culture” in the unit, including hourly rounding, debriefing, simulations, and effective communication and feedback to others. It will be led by Christine Horton, RN, who holds certification in high risk obstetrics and has been the chief clinical officer for Flex Ed for the last four years.
Program cost is $95 for HASC member hospitals.
