Healthy Way LA Auto Enrollment Has Begun in Los Angeles County
Healthy Way LA (HWLA), part of the California Health Care Coverage Initiative that seeks to expand health care coverage for eligible individuals who potentially will be eligible for Medi-Cal with the expansion of Medicaid coverage in 2014, continues its enrollment throughout the county.
The Department of Health Services has enrolled 200,924 low-income county residents into the program as of June 30, 2012. Of those, 77,215 are in DHS medical homes and 83,230 are in Community Partner (CP) clinic medical homes.
Los Angeles County started to auto-enroll eligible Los Angeles County General Relief (GR) recipients into the HWLA-matched program on June 1, 2012. Approximately 65,000 eligible GR recipients qualified for the HWLA-matched program in the month of June. Preliminary analyses have shown that about one-quarter of these individuals have used a DHS or CP site for health care services in the past. Approximately 40,000 GR recipients were enrolled without a medical home. DHS is working with the GR recipients, many of whom are homeless, to assign them to a medical home.
DHS is continuing to work with the Department of Public Social Services to increase outreach and awareness regarding coverage and medical home options for the GR population.
