Kelly Bruno Named CEO of National Health Foundation
Ms. Kelly Bruno has been appointed chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Health Foundation (NHF), a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving and enhancing the health care of the underserved by developing and supporting innovative programs. Bruno succeeds Dr. J. Eugene Grigsby, III, who led the NHF for 13 years before retiring at the end of March. Bruno started her role as CEO this month.
Jess Womack, chairperson of the NHF board of directors, said, “The board voted unanimously last July to select Kelly for the CEO slot. She is intimately familiar with the NHF’s history and programs and the evolving health care landscape, especially as it relates to the nonprofit world nationally. Kelly has the intelligence, vision, and humanistic commitment to carry on and expand on the outstanding work of Dr. Grigsby.”
Bruno served as COO for three years and was the NHF’s lead staff member on budgetary and fundraising/development issues. She joined the NHF eight years ago in 2007 as vice president of programs.
During her tenure at the NHF, Bruno actively led and managed teams involved in a number of major NHF initiatives, including:
- The Recuperative Care program, which assists homeless patients discharged from hospitals with transitional housing and aftercare services.
- The Patient Safety First program, a collaborative partnership involving more than 180 hospitals statewide that is increasing health care quality, saving lives, and reducing costs by millions of dollars each year.
