LEAD Academy Graduates 35, Announces Level 2 Courses

Rhona Banayat, Methodist Hospital of Southern California with Dan Popescu, Ojai Valley Community Hospital.
August 29, 2013

Congratulations to the 13 graduating participants of LEAD Academy held at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and 22 attendees of a customized LEAD Academy course at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach. With a number of sold-out sessions, LEAD Academy has become a must-attend course for new managers at health care facilities throughout the HASC region.

The six-session, 12-module program focuses on cultivating leadership skills of newly appointed or previously untrained health care managers, directors and supervisors. Taught by Pamela Cunningham and Marcey Uday-Riley, both leaders in organizational and human behavior, LEAD Academy is in its seventh cycle since it began in 2012. To date, more than 100 have attended one or more of the sessions hosted in Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. Certificates are awarded to attendees of all six meetings.

Dan Popescu, Ojai Valley Community Hospital, chose to participate as a new director. “I had training, an MBA,” he said. “This is a refresher and it’s easy to translate what I learned here into day-to-day [work]. It covers everything I encompass as a director—team building, interpersonal conflict, time management, process and financials. It’s been a great experience.”

Beginning in October, HASC will offer LEAD Academy 2, the next level of training for new managers and those with leadership skills they would like to enhance. LEAD 2 includes three sessions with two modules each. For more information, please visit www.hasc.org/education-event/lead-academy-2-los-angeles or contact Karen Ochoa, (213) 538-0765, kochoa@hasc.org.

Registration is also open for the fall cycle of the original LEAD Academy beginning Sept. 13. Sign up now.
