The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to accept the County’s allocation of the 2010 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant from the Department of Homeland Security. 

The UASI Grant enhances the capacity of state and local agencies to respond to incidents of terrorism and natural disasters through coordinated training, exercises, equipment acquisition and technical assistance.

The local grant award is administered for the Los Angeles/Long Beach Urban Area by the City of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles/Long Beach Urban Area, which includes the County, the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach as well as 26 other participating jurisdictions, received $69,922,146. The County’s portion of the 2010 award is $8,949,330 to be distributed as follows:

• Chief Executive Office/Office of Emergency Management - $590,000
• Health Services – $638,888 (Gurney Purchase Reimbursement to Private and Public Hospitals)
• Fire – $1,284,694 (the department has already included all but $250,000 of its portion of the grant award in its FY 2011-2012 adopted budget)
• Public Health – $170,000
• Sheriff – $6,205,748
• Mental Health – $60,000

The California Emergency Management Agency has provided the Los Angeles County Operational Area with specific guidelines for the administration, management and utilization of the UASI Grant.
