Program on Earthquake Mitigation for Hospitals A Success
FEMA P-767, Earthquake Mitigation for Hospitals, a free educational program offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its sponsoring partners at the end of May, drew 113 participants from HASC member hospitals throughout the region. Workshops took place in Fontana for Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, in Santa Ana for Orange County, and in Glendale for the Los Angeles region.
The three very successful training days included audiences comprised of a variety of backgrounds. Faculty for the sessions featured Michael Griffin, P.E., lead trainer, principal at CCS Group, Inc.; Michael Mahoney, presenter, geophysicist at FEMA (Headquarters); Raymond Lenaburg, presenter, Chief, Risk Analysis Branch at FEMA (Region 9); and Jennifer Lynette, presenter, Earthquake Program Manager at FEMA (Region 9).
The presenters engaged in discussion with the participants on the following topics:

- State Earthquake Program Overview
- FEMA Existing Buildings Program
- Structural Basics
- Non-Structural Elements & Hazards
- Non-Structural Mitigation for Hospitals
The workshops were provided by FEMA, Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency, the County of Riverside Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response, CHA and HASC.
