Space Still Available for Programs on Earthquake Mitigation for Hospitals
The registration deadline for FEMA P-767, Earthquake Mitigation for Hospitals is Friday, May 13. The free educational program, offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its sponsoring partners, will take place in the Inland Area on Monday, May 23; in Orange County on Tuesday, May 24; and in Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 25. Participant space is limited and openings are on a first-come, first-served basis.
The session will cover the following topics:
- Earthquake Hazard Overview
- State Earthquake Program Overview
- FEMA Existing Buildings Program
- Structural Basics
- Non-Structural Elements & Hazards
- Non-Structural Mitigation for Hospitals
Hospitals have unique non-structural components, including special equipment and unique infrastructure systems. Even during smaller sized earthquakes, non-structural components of hospitals can cause injury and/or varying amounts of damage. Also, hospitals must remain operational during and after an earthquake. By using sound, cost-effective mitigation techniques, operations can be maintained, and losses can be reduced, and in some cases eliminated.
This workshop is provided by FEMA, Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency, the County of Riverside Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response, CHA and HASC. The first session will take place at Kaiser Palm Court II in Fontana. The Orange County program will be held at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and the Los Angeles training will be held at the Marcia Ray Breast Center near Glendale Memorial Hospital.
