IAHSS Security & Safety Certification Preparation Program
Designed for health care safety and security officers, this three-day, eight-hour course is based on International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety, or IAHSS, curriculum.
The course is intended to build basic training and skills for health care security officers. The student will apply tools and techniques learned to take and pass the IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer Certification exam.

Course Objectives

- Understand the basic principles of health care security, security skills procedures and techniques
- Carry out the role of security in health care organizations and implement protective measures
- Initiate health care safety and emergency management procedures
- Communicate the role of the health care security officer and legal issues involved in his or her role

Faculty
David ‘Kawika’ Feltman, CHPP, ILO, TLO, is director of security for Adventist Health White Memorial in Los Angeles and is responsible for the overall management and oversight of the hospital’s safety and security programs. Feltman is a Certified Homeland Protection Professional (CHPP), having obtained this prestigious designation from the National Sheriff’s Association and the National Domestic Preparedness Coalition, through the Global Center for Threat, Risk, and Vulnerability. He also serves as Region 5 Chairperson for IAHSS – covering California, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
Mark Mooring, CPP, CHPA, is the founder of Proper Authorities, a security assessment and training company. Mooring has held various positions within the health care security and safety realm, and when called upon acts in the capacity as an expert witness. He holds a master’s of public administration degree from the University of Southern California and has dedicated his life’s work to protection, safety, preparedness and training.
Steven Storbakken, MBA, CHPA, CHEP, HACP, CHEM, CHSP, CHPP, is director of environmental safety and emergency preparedness at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. He is a published, nationally-recognized expert in emergency management and preparedness. Storbakken was selected to complete an editorial review and chapter update of the IAHSS’s Basic Security Officer Training Manual’s emergency management chapter. He is also a member of Frontiers in Medicine Editorial Review Panel, Emergency Management Section.
Jonathan Westall, CHPA, CPP, is the director of security services for Huntington Memorial Hospital, with a business management background and a reputation for delivering effective leadership. In this role, he collaborates across multiple functional areas in the definition of security plans and procedures. Westall is an authority in the monitoring, analysis and development of risk resolution strategies for the prevention of adverse operational events.
