Attendees learned how simulation training is equipping nurses in all care settings to improve early recognition and management of the signs and symptoms of sepsis, thereby decreasing morbidity and mortality.

Designated HSAG partnering hospitals assigned to this breakout reviewed strategies for preventing several types of Healthcare Associated Infections and shared their progress with their peers.
Surgical Safety – Focus on Retained Surgical Items (RSI)

Attendees at this breakout session participated in a discussion about Retained Surgical Items (RSI), learned how they can access new resources being provided by our Collaborative to tackle “retained sponge” - the most commonly reported “never event” to the California Department of Public Health. Attendees also learned about the California Hospital Patient Safety Organization (CHPSO) focus on other RSI, such as instrument fragments, hardware, needles, etc.
CLABSI, CAUTI, and VAP: Our Progress to Date, and Year-End Challenge

Attendees learned about our PSF Collaborative progress in the aggregate, and discussed measure specifications and reporting requirements. We will be pressing hard for 2nd and 3rd quarter data submission so that we can celebrate the achievements of all our PSF hospitals. Saleema is available on a 1:1 basis to any hospital staff member who needs her assistance in data collection and/or reporting.
SimSuite Mobile Simulation Lab Open House Demonstration

Attendees at this breakout session received a demonstration of how the Simulation Training will be conducted in the Los Angeles area in September and October. HASC will send all PSF hospitals the information to sign up for this free (funded by the Anthem Blue Cross PSF Grant), high quality education.
Surgical Care Operating Room Excellence

Attendees learned about the upcoming Surgical Care and Operating Room Excellence (SCORE) Collaborative and discussed the barriers that keep ORs from tackling quality, safety and efficiency issues.
