April 25, 2013

The social worker is a vital member of the team providing compassionate, patient and family-centered care that relieves suffering and improves quality of life for those with serious or chronic illness. The CSU Institute for Palliative Care’s Post-MSW Palliative Care Social Work Certificate provides social workers with the knowledge and skills to be successful working in a palliative care, interprofessional environment whether that is in a hospital, hospice or other setting.

The non-credit Post-MSW Certificate in Palliative Care is comprised of three levels of training totaling 180 educational hours. Participants completing all three levels will receive their Post-MSW Certificate in Palliative Care from California State University San Marcos.

Course work includes activities designed to enhance learning through question/answer sessions, interactive case studies, opportunities for students to apply knowledge in “virtual” palliative care contexts, and the ability to interact with fellow participants in a cohort-based, online community.
