Post-MSW Palliative Care Social Work Certificate
The social worker is a vital member of the team providing
compassionate, patient and family-centered care that relieves
suffering and improves quality of life for those with serious or
chronic illness.The CSU Institute for Palliative Care’s
Post-MSW Palliative Care Social Work Certificate provides
social workers with the knowledge and skills to be successful
working in a palliative care, interprofessional environment
whether that is in a hospital, hospice or other setting.
The non-credit
Post-MSW Certificate in Palliative Care is comprised of three
levels of training totaling 180 educational hours. Participants
completing all three levels will receive their Post-MSW
Certificate in Palliative Care from California State University
San Marcos.
Course work includes activities designed to enhance learning
through question/answer sessions, interactive case studies,
opportunities for students to apply knowledge in “virtual”
palliative care contexts, and the ability to interact with fellow
participants in a cohort-based, online community.

About the CSU Institute for Palliative Care
The CSU Institute for Palliative Care is America’s first
statewide educational and workforce development initiative
dedicated to palliative care. The Institute offers professional
development and continuing education courses designed to enhance
the skills of current and future health care professionals, as
well as programs to build palliative care awareness in the

campus will be part of a model for palliative care workforce
development and community awareness that will be available to
