President’s Message From George W. Greene
April is National Minority Health Month, a time to raise awareness about health disparities that continue to impact racial and ethnic minority populations. While HASC through Communities Lifting Communities and National Health Foundation is focusing its attention on these important issues year-round as one of our top strategic priorities, it is a timely opportunity to provide a collective voice to support eliminating health care disparities while improving health outcomes of all minority populations.
To further amplify the need for health equity, we recognize April 11-17 as Black Maternal Health Week. The campaign and activities for Black Maternal Health Week serve to amplify the voices of black mothers and center the values and traditions of the reproductive and birth justice movements.
Along these lines, I am pleased to announce that Health Net, through the Centene Foundation for Quality Healthcare, has awarded our Cherished Futures for Black Moms & Babies collaborative a $300,000 grant to continue its work in Los Angeles over the next three years.
Cherished Futures is a joint initiative of Communities Lifting Communities (CLC), the Public Health Alliance of Southern California (Alliance), and HASC. The grant is part of Health Net’s efforts to reduce Black infant mortality and improve patient experiences and safety for Black mothers in underserved communities of Los Angeles County.
Please join me in acknowledging CLC’s progress and National Minority Health Month. As always, I encourage our hospital members to reach out with any challenges, questions or concerns you may have.
Take care, stay safe and stay tuned!
George G.
