Golf Fundraiser Reaches Green

More than 70 golfers joined over a dozen sponsors at Oct. 5’s HASC Charity Golf Classic, where they enjoyed mild, early-autumn weather while raising more than $50,000.
Over the past decade, the fundraiser has brought in $605,000 for the HASC-affiliated National Health Foundation, NHF Board Chair Jess Womack said at the event.
NHF takes on a range of projects supporting health care for underserved communities. They include the Pathway Recuperative Care program that assists homeless patients with transitional housing, a Health Academy that teaches students about nutrition and a Teen Parenting program. The foundation also supports Patient Safety First, which works to reduce negative hospital outcomes and accompanying costs.
A light moment occurred early in the tournament when event organizer George Mack’s ball ended up — alone — in the hole during the simultaneous putting event. Mack’s ball collided with at least one other and “caromed in” like a billiards ball, he recalled during the awards program.
With a score of 72, Ryan Sader of Toyon Associates, Inc. posted the tournament’s low total. Shery Shemirani carded the women’s low score with a 92. A team made up of HASC President Jim Barber, Ron Knapp of Toyon Associates and Steve Moreau and Jeremy Zoch (both of St. Joseph Hospital) posted the No. 1 team aggregate results of 331.
Closest-to-hole honors went to Sandy Smith (No. 3), Trahan Whitten (No. 5), Joe Blatchford (No. 11) and Joey Kragelund (No. 16).
Next year’s tournament is slated for Monday, Nov. 14 at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga.
