The U.S. infant mortality rate has fallen over the last two decades, but major disparities remain – and carry serious implications for overall health. In 2017, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that: More than 22,000 babies died before the age of one. That’s a rate of 5.8 infant deaths per 1,000 births for the general population.
