HASC’s Communities Lifting Communities (CLC) initiative had a productive May, focusing on solutions to regional health disparities. On May 14, CLC — with HASC and the Public Health Alliance of Southern California — met with Los Angeles County health leaders to identify interventions aimed at birth-outcomes improvement.
At the meeting, CLC rolled out its new Cherished Futures for Black Moms & Babies program. The effort is aimed at reducing infant mortality and improving pregnant women’s experiences in South Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley. With a sponsorship from Health Net, Cherished Futures will unite local hospital leadership, public health officials, health plans, and advocates at select pilot sites to jointly identify and implement interventions at the clinical, institutional and community level.
On May 22, CLC and San Antonio Regional Hospital hosted health leaders from across the Inland Empire to explore coordinated approaches to the region’s public health challenges. Participants reviewed community health data, health needs, and community health priority areas, identifying areas where they may be able to work together. Common topics of concern across the region include substance abuse, transportation for seniors, affordable housing, homelessness and chronic diseases.
This Friday, June 7, CLC’s work continues as it presents the first in a series of leadership seminars on effectiveness in public health. Called Alignment of Governance and Leadership in Healthcare: Building Momentum for Transformation, the day-long session will be presented in Moreno Valley on Friday at Kaiser Permanente Moreno Valley. The session will take place at other locations on June 11, Aug. 7, Aug. 14, and Oct. 30.
A limited number of seats remain open for Friday’s event. Please visit CLC online or contact Karen Ochoa to learn more.
