Introduce yourself.
I was born and raised in North Carolina. I spent most of my years in Winston-Salem and then graduated from undergraduate in Charlotte. Three years later I earned my master’s in health administration from Cal State Northridge. This school was the perfect match for me because I’m interested in health IT, and the program offered the master’s along with a certification in health informatics.
What do you like about L.A.? Not like?
I tell people that you have to love L.A. to stay in L.A. And I truly love it here.
At first, I would say actually living here, rather than visiting, was a bit of a culture shock. I couldn’t believe it would take an hour to go 15 miles. It is a completely different environment than where I am from but in all the best ways. Since moving, I have had some of the best experiences. I enjoy being able to explore the beaches and see all the beautiful mountain ranges. Now, I get to do all the things that I would have never been able to do before, like hiking, dance classes, exotic foods, and Beychella (Beyoncé-Coachella).
What are you going to work on here at HASC?
I am researching how best I can help HASC. I’m also developing a career plan, familiarizing myself with HASC, meeting members, and identifying what I would like to learn from this experience. This opportunity is so unique because fellows have the chance to help design the fellowship experience that best matches their career goals. I am so grateful for this opportunity and excited to see what all is in store.
Fun fact – or two!
My favorite food is crab legs, and once I held a contest with my friends to see who could eat the most crab legs at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Long story short, we got sick.
I ran collegiate track and field for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I did long jump.
