Nearly $1 million in class-action settlement funds collected by HASC endorsed business partner MCAG are being delivered to association members this month. The proceeds derive from a single court-mandated settlement — with more checks expected soon for hospitals enrolled in the service.
MCAG, or Managed Care Advisory Group, automatically signs up participating hospitals and health systems to class-action settlements for which they’re eligible.
“The beauty of the program is MCAG takes care of the details,” HASC Association Services Director Kimberly Johnson explained. “Once members are signed up, they’re added to new claims without any action required on their part.”

Last month, Johnson visited operators of Ventura County’s Aurora Vista del Mar Hospital, severely damaged in last month’s Thomas Fire, to deliver one of the first checks written as part of a settlement linked to allegedly overpriced polyurethane foam in beds and furniture. A total of 26 systems and facilities are now receiving similar checks, which range in size from about $5,000 to more than $105,000.
Depending on the date of enrollment, HASC and MCAG may have filed into as many as six settlements on behalf of organizations, including:
- The polyurethane foam settlement
- Two Cipro antibiotic settlements
- An optical disk drive settlement
- A cathode ray tube settlement
- A lithium ion battery settlement
