Santa Barbara’s Cottage Health was honored as a 2017 C. Duane Dauner Quality Award finalist at this month’s Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) conference in Monterey. Cottage won kudos for Turning Up the HEAT on Harm — a multi-pronged approach to avoiding falls and other negative events.

HEAT is a Cottage designation for harm event action team.

Formerly known as the HQI Vanguard Award, the Hospital Quality Institute renamed the honor for Dauner in recognition of his three-plus decades of service to the California Hospital Association.

HQI awarded the top Dauner Award honor to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Mono County’s Mammoth Hospital was also selected as a 2017 finalist.
