Education Program Offers Hospital Security Officers Specialized Training

A total of 22 hospital security personnel attended HASC’s IAHSS Security & Safety Certification Program last month. Each attendee received instruction on basic level health care security and skills. Participants then applied their training by completing the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety Basic Level Certification test — 17 passed the exam.
The course took place at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena on Sept. 9, 16 and 23. It will be offered again this coming February and March at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Click here to enroll.
This week — incidentally — is National Healthcare Security and Safety Week (Oct. 8-14). The observance is sponsored by IAHSS.
Bringing the course to members was spearheaded by the HASC Security & Safety Committee — led by Darren Morgan, corporate director of safety & central transport for Citrus Valley Health Partners — to help further the development and professionalism of health care security officers.
HASC thanks the following program instructors and volunteers: David “Kawika” Feltman, director of security for White Memorial Medical Center; Mark Mooring, founder of Proper Authorities; Juan Pulido, lead security analyst for St. Joseph Hospital; Steven Storbakken, director of environmental safety and emergency preparedness for Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center; and Jonathan Westhall, vice president of ancillary services for Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital.
