Executives Get OSHPD View on Facilities
A meeting of HASC’s Hospital Operations Committee on Feb. 15 provided Southern California hospital executives an opportunity to better understand the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development’s (OSHPD) perspective and procedures with respect to hospital construction.
Paul Coleman of OSHPD’s Facilities Development Division discussed workload and reviewed timelines and a new provision for electronic plan submission. He also discussed the state agency’s plan for a new Los Angeles office in the Wells Fargo Center — not far from HASC headquarters in the Bunker Hill district.
CHA’s Cheri Hummel introduced Coleman and characterized OSHPD as “a fair and helpful regulatory agency.” She recounted how earthquakes in 1971, 1989 and 1994 influenced rules and procedures for hospital construction in the state.
HASC’s Hospital Operations Committee meets several times each year to discuss operational challenges hospitals face. The committee also reviews innovative business approaches and provide a forum to help HASC staff discuss matters impacting health care facilities.
The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7 at 8:30 a.m. Meetings on Sept. 13 and Dec. 6 round out this year’s schedule.
