First Leaves of Absence Course Is Well Attended
Course presenter Kirstin Muller of the Hirschfeld Kraemer legal firm (center right, background) worked with attendees during an interactive portion of Nov. 15’s Understanding and Managing Leaves of Absence.
Over 30 participants signed up for and attended Nov. 15’s Understanding and Managing Leaves of Absence, a HASC education offering at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles.
Presented by two legal experts from the Santa Monica offices of Hirschfeld Kraemer, the course offered an in-depth review of federal and state rules and guidelines that govern employee leave — from baby-bonding time for new moms to leaves for illness and injury. Lead presenter (and firm partner) Kirstin Muller was joined by law firm associate Stefanie Renaud for the three-hour session.
Designed for human resources managers, chief nursing officers and others, the session sparked active questions and discussion from attendees. Topics included: defining reasonable accommodation for employment leave, formulating relevant questions and delving into details of California’s voluminous employment code.
With the success of this month’s session, HASC will likely offer a second Leave of Absence in 2020. Dates are not set, however. With any questions, please contact Jamila Mayers, HASC education program director.
