Friday Is Deadline for Statewide
Perinatal Mental Health Learning Project
Only one day remains to join close to 50 California hospitals participating in an ongoing educational effort aimed at perinatal mental health.
The deadline to enroll in the Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Learning Community is Friday, Jan. 31. To see if your hospital is already signed up — or complete the two-minute application — click here.
Did you know that perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are the most common complication of childbirth — affecting approximately one in five birthing women? Prevalence rates are even higher in low-income communities and communities of color. Unfortunately, very few women are diagnosed, and only about half of those diagnosed receive treatment.
California hospitals have made great strides in improving maternity care in recent years, bucking the national trend of rising maternal mortality and morbidity. However, there has not been a corresponding advance in maternal mental health. HQI would like to help hospitals address maternal mental health disorders as part of comprehensive, high-quality maternity care in our state.
The PMH Learning Community, administered by HQI and funded by California Health Care Foundation, will provide California hospitals with education, technical assistance and peer support to strengthen perinatal mental health. Starting in February, the program will help hospitals comply with AB-3032, Maternal Mental Health Conditions law. It is delivered in collaboration with Maternal Mental Health NOW and CommonSpirit Health.
