MEETING CONTENT

Physician Musician will demonstrate the positive neurological effects of music. Research Barry Bittman, MD will join forces with Mike Garson, legendary pianist for David Bowie and Drew Tretick, a leading Hollywood soundtrack violinist to illustrate the startling power music offers to heal and promote well-being.

Standing at the Edge Roshi Joan Halifax, PhD,
a medical anthropologist and pioneer in end-of-life care, wants to create a more caring world where moral resilience replaces uncertainty and burnout. Through personal stories from her work with patients, families and caregivers, she will challenge us to better understand the nature of suffering and the human desire to end it. She will help us see what stops us from being compassionate and what conditions are needed to grow caregiver compassion, empathy and resilience.

Miraculous: The Austin Hatch Story Austin Hatch
is a two-time plane crash survivor who will tell his story about pressing on after losing his family in aviation disasters in 2003 and 2011. After nearly losing his life, he recovered from severe injuries was able to graduate from University of Michigan and resume his position on the university basketball team.

Public Policy Outlook
Carmela Coyle and George Greene will also update us on the public policy environment nationally, statewide and in the region.

Not the New Normal but Even Better… Kevin O’Connor was a memorable speaker at the 2021 Annual Meeting and he will return in this year with a new session. O’Connor will take us beyond the anxiety producing ‘new normal’ to control, independence, and solutions! We’ll look at our response to factors out of our control and develop a personal plan for skills to move forward. O’Connor will also address the leadership skills needed to better engage a team or a family around these circumstances. This session offers three Face-to-Face ACHE credit.
