HASC Staff Tours California Hospital Medical Center
More than two dozen HASC staffers received important experiential learning by attending an urban hospital tour at California Hospital Medical Center. The Dec. 5 visit began with a welcome and orientation led by hospital President Margaret R. Peterson, PhD.
Although only two miles from the association’s offices, the hospital is a world away with its Level II trauma center and ED, which see the second-highest rate of penetrating wounds (most gunshot or knife inflicted) of facilities in Los Angeles County.
Hospital guides escorted HASC staff through the facility’s new Los Angeles Center for Women’s Health and its groundbreaking Hope Street Family Center — a pioneer in hospital community outreach. Director Vickie Kropenske led staffers through the family center and summarized its family support, child development, education and mental health-related programs.
Each year, HASC organizes a staff visit to a member hospital to educate employees on the real-world issues facilities face. Last year’s trip toured Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
