On Monday, Casa Colina Hospital in Pomona welcomed more than 30 HASC staffers for a facility tour and overview of hospital programs and services. HASC arranges an annual tour to give staff a chance to connect their work within the association to the hospital bedside, COO Mark Gamble said.
Over the past eight years, employees have visited Casa Colina, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, Olympia Medical Center, Riverside University Health System – Medical Center, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, UC Irvine Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Orange County and California Hospital Medical Center, Los Angeles.
Tour attendees were interested in the facility’s long, rich history. Founded in 1938 to care for polio patients, Casa Colina for many years focused solely on providing rehabilitation-care but has increased its scope of service offerings over the past 75 years. Today, its 99 licensed beds include 68 acute rehabilitation beds, 25 medical-surgical beds, six ICU beds and a trio of operating rooms. In the last 20 years, Casa Colina has grown from less than 100 employees to more than 1,000 today, President/CEO Dr. Felice Loverso told visitors.
CHA and HASC memberships provide many benefits, CEO Loverso said.
“Casa Colina depends on HASC in so many ways,” Loverso said. “Not only for helping us to stay current on information regarding the ever-changing health care environment, but also for keeping us connected with other Southern California hospitals. It was a sincere pleasure to meet the association’s staff and to take this opportunity to share exactly what we do at Casa Colina.”
