In months and years to come, CLC will coordinate multiple agencies and participants working together to address health factors that disproportionately impact low-income communities.
“The goal of CLC is to help hospitals, public health departments and other stakeholders move the needle on reducing health disparities and improve community health throughout Southern California,” HASC senior vice president/COO Mark Gamble explained.
Last Friday’s meeting took place in the Los Angeles Metro Headquarters Building near Union Station. Speaker Rishi Manchanda argued for the efficacy of “upstreamist” principles in an inspiring keynote talk, with Amy Slonim of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation reinforcing the same theme.
CLC, Slonim noted, may now be the largest such collaborative in the U.S., following similar initiatives already established in Chicago, Ill., Kansas City, Mo. and elsewhere.
