LANES Helps L.A. County Hospitals Meet CMS-mandated Event Notifications

July 30, 2021

Hospitals must be in compliance with the CMS Interoperability and Patient Access Final Rule as of May 1. The regulation requires hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, and critical access hospitals to send electronic notifications to patient-identified providers when a patient is admitted, discharged or transferred (ADT). The final rule is required to meet the Medicare and Medicaid Conditions of Participation (CoP).

Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services (LANES) is a nonprofit, community driven Health Information Exchange network. LANES enables the transfer of electronic notifications to the patient’s primary care provider (PCP) or care team when patients are either seen in the emergency department or admitted to or discharged from the hospital. Alerts are intended to improve quality of care and reduce patient readmittance.

LANES works exclusively with Los Angeles County facilities.

This rule is focused on delivering ADT notifications across the care team, not just generating them. ADT’s must reach the patient’s established primary care provider or entities identified by the patient as the entity responsible for their care for any post-acute care service.

For more information and list of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), community clinics and ambulatory providers on the LANES network, visit www.lanesla.org or call (949) 633-3900.
