Longest-serving Staffer Wall Retires
Vice President, Membership and Education Services Pat Wall, whose HASC tenure spans three association CEOs and six U.S. Presidents, retired this week on June 11.
Wall joined HASC as membership services program director in 1983 working with CEO Steve Gamble and senior manager Anthony Abbate. One of her first tasks was launching a member-retention and engagement program with a member directory and database. Wall later took on communications, education, website, IT management and events planning. She earned a reputation as a teambuilder who brought people together to get jobs done — all while displaying her trademark wry humor.
Pat Wall career highlights:
- Representing HASC on the medical communications team for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
- Participating in the early, mid-90s development of the Federated Model among the four Associations.
- Conducting HASC 2013’s active-shooter response drill at the old Los Angeles County-USC hospital involving 30 law enforcement officers and 200 members. The event was filmed and used by American and overseas hospitals and businesses to support hospital safety and security procedures.
- Organizing the HASC Annual Meeting for over 20 years.
“It’s been a great run,” Wall said this week. “This is an organization that’s dedicated to making a difference. I’m lucky to have worked with the very best people at CHA, the Regional Associations and member organizations who are leading the way to evolve health care.”
Wall is looking forward to new projects and adventures. She’ll continue as guest lecturer at California Lutheran University and will support husband Tim Malette with his wine-distribution business. She intends to hone her golf, tennis and pickleball games.
“And most of all, I’m looking forward to having more time for travel, friends and family,” she said. “I’m excited to see what might come my way.”
