March speaker Maria R. Moreno, MPH is program manager with Sutter Health’s Institute for Advancing Health Equity’s Quality and Safety Team.
HASC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative team invites members to view March 4’s session featuring Sutter Health’s Maria R. Moreno.

Moreno, of the system’s Institute for Advancing Health Equity’s Quality and Safety Team, presents a step-by-step guide to launching a hospital DEI program. The video session covers the following areas:
- Collecting and tracking patient diversity metrics
- Establishing system support
- Promoting shared accountability
- Engaging community stakeholders
A database that logs and tracks patient — and employee — demographics is the basis for moving the needle on DEI issues, Moreno explains in the March 4 recording.
Without patient-submitted data, the Northern California system might only know that Oakland or MediCal patients present with asthma at higher rates. Data wouldn’t exist on ethnic or racial trends — making it difficult to track any program’s effectiveness.
HASC’s next Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Roundtable is set for Thursday, May 6. Please mark your calendars — the time, speaker, and registration link will be shared soon.
All hospital management categories are invited to attend. CEOs, chief diversity officers, chief health equity officers, chief medical officers, chief human resources officers, and chief population health officers are all welcome.
