Letters to Oppose AB 3087
Opposing California Assembly Bill 3087, legislation that would set reimbursement rates for the state’s hospitals and other providers, is a policy priority for the California Hospital Association (CHA) and HASC. Writing in the Sacramento Bee, CHA President/CEO Carmela Coyle recently warned that, if passed, the law could result in as many as 175,000 layoffs. CHA estimates that hospitals statewide would lose $18 billion annually — the financial impact to hospitals in Los Angeles County might total $3.4 billion annually.
HASC’s Jaime Garcia recently explained to Los Angeles County supervisors that elements of a recent motion on protecting the Affordable Care Act in California seemed to echo language in AB 3087. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, who authored the county measure, replied that the intention was not to weigh in on the pending state legislation.
The association has been hard at work across the region messaging the potential negative impacts of the legislation, presenting to the legislative committees of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley. HASC and Providence St. Joseph Health also worked together to secure BizFed Board of Directors’ opposition last week.
The suggested deadline to submit letters opposing AB 3087 is Thursday, May 24. Address your letter to Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, Chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
Please email your letter by close of business Thursday to CHA Legislative Assistant Dawn Vicari at dvicari@calhospital.org.
