Next Disaster Training Is May 2-3
The next two-day Hospital Disaster Management Training (HDMT) session takes place Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3 at LAC+USC Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Additional sessions are also scheduled for Oct. 3-4 and Dec. 5-6.
The training, presented by HASC and the Los Angeles County Disaster Resource Center, is designed for physicians, nurses, administrators, first receivers and other health care workers. Coursework will cover planning for, and response to, natural disasters and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives (CBRNE) incidents.
Participants will learn how to move beyond awareness and focus on operational strategies. At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Describe a health care facility’s role in a disaster.
• Identify triage priorities in disaster patients.
• Perform a role in a hospital command center and emergency department during a disaster drill.
Training takes place 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The per-student fee is $199, and the sessions are limited to 35 participants.
