NHF Celebrates With Pico-Union Block Party
NHF Relationship Manager Camille Demano (second from left) joined NHF Program Coordinator Lauren Brunet (right) in organizing fun activities for attendees at the foundation’s second-annual Block Party this month.
National Health Foundation hosted its second-annual Pico-Union Recuperative Care Facility Block Party on Oct. 12. Nearly 700 attendees participated in this year’s event – which included a lineup of over 20 organizations sharing health resources, entertainment from local community groups and free food.
At the event, NHF also hosted representatives from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilmember Gil Cedillo, with a special appearance by Los Angeles Department of Public Works Commissioner Aura Garcia (a former Pico-Union resident).
The block party was organized in partnership with SoCal Gas, the Los Angeles Board of Public Works and its Office of Community Beautification, and city councilmember Gil Cedillo.
This year’s event paid special tribute to the tireless work of Communidad de NHF (the community of NHF volunteers and staff). In partnership with NHF, this devoted group has expanded its scope of work from providing support to individuals experiencing homelessness at the recuperative care facility. They have initiated a five-year beautification project that will not only transform the parkway in front of the facility but will extend across the Pico-Union district.
Altogether, there was much to celebrate at this year’s block party – and organizers look forward to celebrating new milestones at next year’s event.
