NHF Expands Recuperative Care During Pandemic
National Health Foundation, a HASC charitable affiliate, has taken a strong stance in its commitment to serving its most vulnerable neighbors through the pandemic. Chief among these efforts was the opening of a 90-bed emergency recuperative care facility through Project Roomkey, the statewide initiative aimed at limiting COVID-19 among people experiencing homelessness.
Most recently, these efforts have resulted in the opening of another recuperative care site in Ventura County through Project Homekey, a continuation of the statewide initiative Project Roomkey. In partnership with Mercy House, 70 interim beds will be made available, 20 of which will be operated by NHF under its recuperative care model, offering social and medical services to unhoused individuals in the region.
NHF operates multiple recuperative care facilities across the HASC region. Each gives people experiencing homelessness a place to recover and heal from an injury or illness post-hospital discharge.
For this work, NHF recently received a donation from California Hospital Association in honor of CHA’s outgoing board chair, CEO Gary Wilde of Community Memorial Health System. The donation is being directed to the foundation’s Ventura facility, a 12-bed program that opened in 2017.
“Thank you Gary Wilde, (CHA President/CEO) Carmela Coyle, Hospital Association of Southern California, and Community Memorial Health System, Ventura for your support!,” NHF said this month.
