Nursing Span of Control Discussion Is Thursday, Sept. 14
Nurse and facility managers concerned about increasing workloads for nurse supervisors will appreciate a special Thursday, Sept. 14 discussion of nursing span of control (SOC) in hospitals. The event runs 8:30 a.m. to noon at The Innovation Lab in Newport Beach.
Taking proactive steps to address this challenging issue, HASC tasked its Nursing Advisory Council to investigate and explore relevant academic research, as well as practical solutions, to help the C-Suite make informed and effective decisions on the widespread impact SOC has on hospitals and their nursing staff. The goal is to help organizations move past instinctive decision-making about SOC and staffing to informed, intentional decision-making.
We invite the entire C-Suite of your organization (along with other groups, listed below) to join us for this stimulating discussion as we explore:
- The impact of SOC on nurse managers, staff and patients;
- Factors in hospitals that impact the span of control of nursing leaders; and
- Actions and activities senior hospital leaders can take to actively monitor and manage nurse manager SOC within their hospitals and health care systems.
The morning will consist of a three-hour workshop with speakers diving deep into the SOC issue. Hospital leaders who have successfully tackled this issue will also share their stories, and participants will bring their SOC challenges to the table for brainstorming and action planning.
The cost is $75 per HASC member and $100 for non-members.
The program is geared for the C-Suite, nurse executive, human resources executive and organizational development professional communities.
