President’s Message From George W. Greene
This past year has been historic for many reasons, not least for HASC’s first virtual Annual Meeting over April 29 and 30. In previous years, the Annual Meeting served as a venue for hospital leaders to convene with colleagues about industry trends, innovation, and important discussions about the future of health care. Last Thursday and Friday was no different — aside from the fact that we attended from our own homes and offices.
Despite not being face-to-face, we heard from industry experts on a range of relevant topics — with a special focus on epidemiology and beating the pandemic. Other important topics included behavioral health, social determinants, cybersecurity, and a memorable talk on the power of kindness. I want to send a personal thank you to our many excellent speakers — and to all participants, attendees and sponsors!
May 6 kicked off National Nurses Week to put a spotlight on the incredible nurses who strive to provide unrelenting care to our communities. This past year illuminated the sacrifices of our nursing professionals which warrants much more than a week of gratitude.
Next week, May 9-15, launches a very special National Hospital Week, one in which the coronavirus pandemic that has impacted almost every facet of life in California is subsiding. California hospitals have weathered what was likely the biggest challenge in their history, and the time is ripe for recognizing their accomplishments.
The 185 HASC region hospitals and more than 400 hospitals across the state held firm in the face of overwhelming numbers, providing world-class care through a pandemic that generated more than 3.7 million cases. Please join me in recognizing the tremendous efforts of our beloved nursing professionals and amazing hospital heroes. Over the next week, watch for a series of social media posts and messaging celebrating our brave virus fighters.
Take care, stay safe and stay tuned!
George G.
