Safety, Security Are Double Focus This Friday
HASC staff tweeted a #HAVhope message on the campaign day in June 2018.

This Friday is #HAVhope Friday – an American Hospital Association campaign aimed at ending all forms of violence – especially in health care settings. HASC is participating via its @SoCalHospitals Twitter account.
The issue of violence and how it affects health care workers received renewed attention last month when a news item outlined a pattern of “violent outbursts from patients and patients’ families” in hospitals.
HASC and its Security & Safety Committee have played prominent roles in responding to the threat of violence in hospitals since 2013. In that year, more than 200 facility managers and personnel took part in an active shooter drill at the now-retired LAC+USC Medical Center. Conducted with the help of more than a dozen law-enforcement officers, that first event resulted in the production of a short film and educational tool kit to help hospitals conduct active shooter drills.
Since 2013, HASC has presented multiple day-long certification courses for security personnel and continues to offer specialized aggression-management training through its endorsed business partner HSS Inc.
This Friday, HASC’s Security and Safety Committee and Nursing Advisory Council meet jointly to discuss the issue of workplace violence from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendance is open to council and committee members only.
