Security and Safety Course Graduates Second Cohort
Security dog Falcor and handler Nathan Strickland visited the summer 2018 class of HASC’s IAHSS Security & Safety training course.
Sixteen enrollees recently completed the second offering of HASC’s International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Preparation Program, held on three successive Saturdays at Pomona Valley Medical Center. Students reviewed a range of security skills, procedures and techniques, along with emergency management procedures and relevant legal considerations.
One highlight was a Sept. 15 visit by Falcor — a Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center security dog, along with handler Nathan Strickland. The pair were invited by Steve Storbakken, a course instructor and the facility’s director of environmental safety and emergency preparedness.
Other instructors included Darren Morgan of Huntington Memorial Hospital, David “Kawika” Feltman, an independent security consultant, Mark Reed of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, and Trenton Jackson of USC’s medical center security team. Derek Webster, also of Pomona Valley Hospital, was a guest speaker.
The program, which will be offered next year, is designed to prepare students for the IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer Certification exam. Dates are not yet set.
