Sept. 26 Session Covers Nurse
Intervention, Diversion Program
Registered nurses and other health care professionals aren’t immune to substance use disorder or mental illness. A day-long seminar, offered Wednesday, Sept. 26 in Montebello, offers hospitals critical information on the Board of Registered Nursing and Healthcare Professionals’ Intervention Program and Diversion Program.
The program offers an alternative to disciplinary action in addressing problems and returning professionals to work while ensuring safety for patients and hospitals.
Sept. 26’s session features two presenters with special insights into the program. Shannon Johnson and Joseph Pacheco are deputy chiefs of enforcement assigned to the BRN.
The event also features Virginia Matthews, project manager for MAXIMUS, the nursing board’s administrative vendor.
The seminar will also address the stigma of drug addiction, controversies surrounding the diversion program and data on program effectiveness.
