Southern California Edison Public Safety Power
Shutdowns May Impact Hospitals in High Risk Fire Areas
Southern California Edison offers a special presentation tomorrow to educate customers on ”public safety power shutdowns” possible during extreme fire weather conditions.
The in-person session and webinar on Thursday, Aug. 1 explains how the practice may impact hospitals and health care facilities.
An enrollment link is available here.
Hospital managers can attend in person, from 10 – 11:30 a.m. in Irwindale — or via an internet link.
“We want to make sure health care providers understand these new safety procedures,” Southern California Edison Account Manager Janet McCoy-Hackney told HASC. “And we want to answer any questions and address any concerns.”
The utility is making a coordinated effort to inform hospitals and other health care providers about possible power shutdowns. A live presentation to the HASC Board takes place today. A web page detailing the procedure, and the safety considerations that prompt it, can be reviewed here.
Southern California Edison announced last year possible power shutdowns for its service area — which covers most of the HASC region. The practice is usually reserved for the high-wind, low-humidity weather events – most common in autumn.
Aug. 1’s event takes place at the Edison Energy Education Center, 6090 N. Irwindale Ave., Irwindale, CA 91702. It’s also available online.
Edison’s McCoy-Hackney is available to answer questions at (909) 942-8248.
