Workforce Development: County of Orange Recognized for Its Mobile One-stop Center

The Orange County Business Council has awarded the County of Orange the Business Retention and Expansion Program Award for its Mobile One-Stop Unit.
The Mobile One-Stop Unit is a reinvention of the brick-and-mortar OC One-Stop Center that travels to various communities throughout Orange County to provide workforce development services to businesses and job seekers.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors (Board) partnered with the OC Workforce Development Board to develop and create the Mobile One-Stop Unit. The Board authorized the use of Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds to purchase the Mobile Unit.
With a fully accessible 12-station state-of-the-art computer lab, the OC One-Stop Mobile Unit will offer a wide array of workforce solutions for businesses and individuals. The Mobile Unit is part of the Orange County post-coronavirus 60-day strategy to get residents back to work and businesses restored. Also, it will be used to address the workforce needs in areas throughout the county, including areas where individuals do not currently have access to employment opportunities, services and resources.
“Hospitals are encouraged to use the business services available through this Mobile Unit and the OC One Stop Centers” said Teri Hollingsworth, HASC vice president of HR and education services and chair of the Orange County Workforce Development Board.
The Mobile Unit can be used to help hospitals with recruiting, pre-employment screening, interviewing, and training. Prospective employees will also be served through various job search and career development activities, such as online job searches, resume and cover letter development, on-line tutorials, and individual assessments, and exploration of training eligibility and options.
Since its February 2021 debut, the OC One-Stop Mobile Unit has served over 300 clients at many locations throughout Orange County, including public libraries, community parks, community centers, and homeless shelters. An online schedule and appointment booking system informs potential clients when the Mobile Unit is in their area and to allows them to make an appointment. Walk-in services are also offered. In addition to broadening the reach of One-Stop Center services to more county residents and businesses, the Mobile Unit has been used to build partnerships with other organizations.
