AHA’s Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence Initiative Releases Palliative Care Guide
E-News Article from the Center of Advance Palliative Care
The AHA’s Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence (HPOE) initiative, in collaboration with the Center to Advance Palliative Care, recently released a new guide that provides hospital and health care system leaders with the knowledge and resources necessary to understand the benefits and opportunities of providing high-quality palliative care services. Palliative Care Services: Solutions for Better Patient Care and Today’s Health Care Delivery Challenges examines the role of palliative care in hospitals and looks at steps hospital leaders can take to start or expand palliative care in their organizations.
The Guide describes the growth and impact of palliative care services in hospitals and explains the role of palliative care in health care reform. It offers examples of successful integration of palliative care services in health systems.
The Guide states that hospitals leaders can improve the quality of care and quality of life for seriously ill patients and their families by viewing palliative care services as an essential component for co-management of the sickest and most complex patients.
This Guide is an important resource for palliative care champions to share with hospital leadership!
