HASC’s Modern Pricing and Transparency Initiative Set to Launch with 52 Hospitals
Fifty-two hospitals have registered to participate in HASC’s Modern Pricing and Transparency Initiative (MPTI) as they independently implement Modern Pricing.
The kick-off meeting for MPTI will be at HASC on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Presenters include Anne McLeod, Senior Vice President, Health Policy, CHA; Lloyd Bookman, Principal, Hooper, Bookman & Lundy; C.R. Bob Hudson, Senior Vice President/Chief Financial Officer, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, and Trahan Whitten, Principal, Toyon Associates, Inc.
The main objectives of Modern Pricing are:
- Make hospital charges more palatable to consumers and bring charges closer to costs.
- Reduce hospital charges – not revenues.
- Modern Pricing should be budget-neutral to hospitals and payers.
MPTI will help hospitals implement Modern Pricing in two critical ways:
- Identify critical pathways necessary to successfully implement Modern Pricing by providing hospitals with access to outside expertise, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, sharing of best practices, and encouragement to “press on.” The expertise includes legal, regulatory, operational and reimbursement resources for hospitals to learn from, and lean on.
- Overcome roadblocks to Modern Pricing by educating health plans, CMS, Medi-Cal and other stakeholders about the value of Modern Pricing.
