Critical Thinking for Charge Nurses

HASC presents its Charge Nurse: Critical Thinking course from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 in the Moseley-Salvatori Conference Center at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles.
Critical thinking is an essential skill for task management and decision making in high-risk situations. The course explores how information analysis can improve quality of thinking, and discusses key principles and barriers to thinking critically. Coursework will also focus on how the application of critical thinking through the nursing process can help staff arrive at appropriate decisions.
Course Objectives
- Be able to define critical thinking.
- Gain knowledge and insight into analyzing, reasoning, and evaluating problems.
- Become knowledgeable about intellectual standards.
- Recognize the barriers to critical thinking.
- Gain knowledge about the application of critical thinking in nursing practice.
- Be able to discuss feeling, vision and examination models.
Faculty
Sylvia Swager CRRN, BHA, has provided instruction for FlexEd since 2012, focusing on classes in leadership, critical thinking, case management and other educational needs to improve the quality of patient care and help others deal with the vast changes and challenges of today’s health care. She has more than 30 years of combined nursing experience in nursing administration and case management. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration and is a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN).
