Understanding and Managing Leaves of Absence

Description

Does working through employee leaves have you ready for your own leave of absence? If so, this half-day workshop is the place for you. Learn about leaves of absence in a stress-free environment that will help you work through the various state and federal laws applicable to most California employees. The session will better your understanding of how to apply these laws while working through various leave scenarios.

Course Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Teach managers to identify reasonable accommodation and leave situations early and when to bring human resources into the conversation 
  • Assess which questions to ask in identifying the applicable leaves 
  • Recognize the applicability of and leave accommodation process under various California regulations 
  • Perform the return process under the same rules

Speaker

Kirstin E. Muller is a litigator and partner at the Hirschfeld Kraemer legal firm. Her clients vary from startups to midsize and Fortune 500 companies. Muller’s experience involves representing employers in a broad range of disputes involving discrimination, reasonable accommodation, wrongful termination, wage and hour, and trade-secret issues. Her successes include summary judgments in numerous cases and defending the decisions on appeal, as well as narrowing class definitions and defeating class certification. Muller vigorously defends her clients in state and federal court as well as administrative agencies, including the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, the federal Department of Labor, Cal/OSHA, the California Employment Development Department, and the California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board, among others.

Registration

Course tuition is $325 for students affiliated with HASC member hospitals. Registration includes continental breakfast, lunch, materials, continuing credits and certificate. Registration deadline is November 1, 2019. To register, click here.

Course Credits

Three hours of ACHE Qualified Education credits and three hours of BRN contact hours are authorized. HRCI credit is under review.
