Women in Health Care Panel Session Aims to Create Climate for New Generation of Leaders
Moderator Romilla A. Batra (from left) leads a conversation on A Culture of Empowerment with panel members Jena Jensen, Sharon Jhawar and Cynthia Neiman on June 9.
HASC’s Women in Health Care Leadership Conference happens this June 9 through 11.
Session moderator Romilla A. Batra, MD, MBA will explore A Culture of Empowerment on day one with CHOC Children’s Chief Government Relations Officer Jena Jensen, SCAN Health Plan Chief Pharmacy Officer Sharon Jhawar, and CHOC Children’s Chief Marketing Officer Cynthia Newman.
Dr. Batra is chief medical officer for the SCAN Health Plan and adjunct faculty member with UCI Paul Merage School of Business and co-organizer of the Women in Health Care Leadership Conference.
The session is designed to set the conference tone, explained HASC Education Program Director Jamila Mayers.
“It’s about creating a culture of empowerment,” Mayers said. “Women and their allies need to form networks of support and create spaces where all feel free to speak up and be their authentic selves.
“That’s a first step toward creating more spaces at the table for the next generation of leaders.”
Other session topics include support from management, decision-making, ongoing training, access to information, trust, planning and mentorship.
The conference is a virtual event. Hosted with UCI Paul Merage School of Business, the multi-day conversation will address many of the internal factors that create barriers, both for women who serve in leadership roles as well as those seeking to advance their careers as leaders.
