Compliance Officers, Plant and Safety Managers Encouraged to Attend Medicare Re-Certification Program

Hear about the compliance, leadership, physical plant and operational changes made at Anaheim General Hospital (AGH) to regain Medicare Certification. Tom Salerno, CEO, AGH, will open a program titled Medicare Re-Certification and Licensure–Hospital Case Studies presenting strategies and tactics used to create hospital-wide change and successful re-certification. The program is set for Thursday, Feb. 17 at Pacific Palms Hotel & Conference Center in the City of Industry.

Hospital Representatives Invited to Participate in ‘Principal for a Day’ Event on Feb. 25

HASC member hospital representatives are invited to participate in Principal for a Day on Friday, Feb. 25. The event is sponsored by Pillar, a partnership between the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Pillar seeks to match health-related small learning communities with hospital representatives for this event. Participants will shadow a principal, administrator or lead teacher to learn more about the challenges and circumstances they face, and interact with students who may aspire to enter the health care profession.

Los Angeles County Continues Work on 1115 Medicaid Waiver Implementation

The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) provided a status report on its efforts for implementing the 1115 Medicaid Waiver. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved the California Section 1115 Medicaid Demonstration, titled California’s Bridge to Reform, for a five-year period starting Nov. 1, 2010.

This week, on a motion offered by Supervisor Shawn Nelson and approved without opposition, the Orange County Board of Supervisors directed County staff to prepare an amendment to the CalOptima Ordinance to preclude the agency’s competition with the private sector in the private, commercial health insurance market, including the future health care Exchange.
