Patient Safety Collaborative Expands Scope, Receives Additional Funding for 2013

Anthem Blue Cross recently extended its commitment to the Southern California Patient Safety First (PSF) Collaborative for 2013. PSF provides a forum for peer-to-peer learning, networking and sharing of best practices to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes. 

With the additional funding, the collaborative has maintained two of the existing focus areas, and has introduced two new clinical areas* in which hospitals can improve:

Hospitals Invited to Submit RFP for Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative

First 5 LA announced the release of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Cycle 3 Request for Proposals to support the implementation of First 5 LA’s Best Start LA Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative. The Baby-Friendly Hospital initiative seeks to improve initiation and duration of breastfeeding by improving breastfeeding policies in birthing hospitals as well as increase exclusive breastfeeding at discharge.

Active Shooter Simulation Early-Bird Rates End Jan. 15

HASC is offering special rates for members who register by Jan. 15 for the upcoming Active Shooter Drill at the LAC + USC Medical Center (old campus).

This simulation exercise, scheduled for Mar. 19, moves beyond classroom training to offer an opportunity to actively participate in two emergency scenarios: one in an ER setting and the other in an office environment. Collaborate with law enforcement and risk analysis experts to learn how you can involve key stakeholders to create a local plan for survival and recovery for your hospital.
