The California State EMS Authority has approved both community paramedicine pilot projects submitted by the Los Angeles County EMS Agency and developed by the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care. In other association news this week, hospitals and Orange County are meeting to discuss mental health system improvements. EMS Authority Accepts LA County EMS / UCLA Pilot for Community Paramedicine

The California State EMS Authority has approved both community paramedicine pilot projects (AlTrans and COMPARE) submitted by the Los Angeles County EMS Agency and developed by the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care. These proposals specifically focus on alternative patient destination and congestive heart failure – 30-day readmissions. All projects must be locally financed.

Hospitals and Orange County Convene to Discuss Mental Health System Improvements

Orange County hospitals, emergency room physicians and Orange County Behavioral Health have teamed up to discuss improvements that could be made in Orange County’s mental health delivery system, with the goal of preparing a collaboratively developed grant application in the SB 82 grant program authored by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and approved by the legislature this year.

HASC, CHA, Regional Associations and HQI Will Collaborate to Present Statewide Conference

HASC has previously hosted a Patient Safety Colloquium each January. This year, HASC is joining forces with the other Regional Hospital Associations, CHA and the Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) to present the First Annual Statewide HQI Conference, combining the learning from our Patient Safety First Collaborative, the Cal HEN, and CHPSO, and offering new strategies and resources to health care professionals across the continuum.

HASC/LA County Will Offer Hospital Disaster Management Training Dec. 3-4

The next quarterly session of Hospital Disaster Management Training provided by Los Angeles County’s Department of Health Services/Emergency Medical Services Agency’s Disaster Resource Center Program is scheduled for Dec. 3-4 at LAC+USC Medical Center.

HASC Names New Santa Barbara/Ventura County RVP

Audra Strickland has joined HASC as Regional Vice President of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties as of Nov. 1. She will be responsible for managing the local and regional legislative and regulatory issues affecting the health care delivery system in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, as identified by the hospitals located in that region.
