Behavioral Health Unit Opens at Bellflower Hospital

Los Angeles Community Hospital at Bellflower recently opened a 32-bed inpatient behavioral health unit—the first step towards restoring full operations to the facility.

Now owned by Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc., the facility replaces the former Bellflower Medical Center, which closed in 2013.

The revamped hospital features new nursing stations and a new patio for patients. The facility employs close to 60 clinical staff and about 20 non-clinical employees. It opened its doors on July 23.

Southern California Providers Back World Games

More than 6,500 athletes visiting Southern California for the Special Olympics World Games knew where to turn in the event of medical emergencies last weekend thanks to a HASC member-supported effort that connected their hosts with neighbor hospitals.

Close to 100 towns from San Luis Obispo to San Diego hosted participants for a three-day period of sightseeing and cultural exchange before events launched this week. Upon arrival, organizers knew that people with intellectual and other disabilities might arrive with special medical needs.

Patient Safety First Releases First-Year Results

In its first year, Patient Safety First…a California Partnership for Health, reports that it has helped save 800 lives by working to prevent sepsis-related deaths. Launched in 2010, Patient Safety First is a groundbreaking three-year, $6-million collaboration between the National Health Foundation, California’s Regional Hospital Associations, and Anthem Blue Cross to improve the consistency and quality of health care for Californians.
