Barber Tribute Dinner Attendees, Sponsors Pour More Than $750,000 Into Fellowship Fund

More than 450 attendees and 50 sponsors built an endowment totaling more than $750,000 at the Dec. 14 Jim Barber Tribute Dinner, which for years to come will underwrite the Jim Barber Administrative Fellowship Program.

HASC Staff Tours California Hospital Medical Center

More than two dozen HASC staffers received important experiential learning by attending an urban hospital tour at California Hospital Medical Center. The Dec. 5 visit began with a welcome and orientation led by hospital President Margaret R. Peterson, PhD.

Although only two miles from the association’s offices, the hospital is a world away with its Level II trauma center and ED, which see the second-highest rate of penetrating wounds (most gunshot or knife inflicted) of facilities in Los Angeles County.

White Paper Reviews ‘Hospitalist’ History

Hospitalist medicine, still a relatively new area of practice, recently marked its 20th anniversary.

The term refers to doctors who focus on work in hospitals, instead of any single medical specialty.
